Family Forward: Birth Parent Support

For birth parents working toward reunification or co-parenting.

At Foster Kinship, we believe strong families include parents.

Family Forward is designed to support parents whose children are living in kinship homes, while the family works together toward reunification, co-parenting, open adoption, or another permanency plan.

This is a collaborative program built on trust, respect, and shared goals. Because of that, participation begins when the kinship caregiver chooses to opt in.

No matter where you are in your journey, you are not alone. We are here to support your growth, your goals, and your relationship with your child.

Note: Family Forward is a caregiver-led program, meaning the kinship caregiver must opt-in to these collaborative services.

How We Support You

We provide a mix of live trainings, self-paced resources, and one-on-one support so you can learn in a way that works best for you.

Services include:

Peer Mentor Reunification Support

Our Peer Parent Mentors provide guidance, encouragement, advocacy, and practical support to parents throughout their reunification journey when their child is placed with a relative caregiver. Drawing from their own lived experience, Peer Parent Mentors help parents navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, access community resources, and work toward their reunification goals.

Support is available before, during, and after reunification to help families build stability, maintain progress, and strengthen family connections as they transition into reunified care. Peer Parent Mentors walk alongside families with understanding, hope, and encouragement throughout the process.

Intakes, Referrals, and Support

Every family is different, and your needs may change over time.

We start with an intake to get to know your family, your goals, and what support would be most helpful. From there, we connect you to resources and provide ongoing guidance so you don’t have to navigate things on your own.
